1. Emotional Banking - With Behaviorally challenging students (especially in junior high) I often hear them complain that "other people get away with stuff that I get yelled at." The concept of emotional banking is a strategy that helps students visualize when "their cup is full" and helps them understand that with more positive behaviour, they are less likely to "get in trouble" for small scale incidents in class. How to Visualize and recognize when you can or can't "get away" with negative behavior is a skill.

2. Self Advocacy - When students feel they are frustrated, tired, aggressive or even if something is on their mind and they want to leave the room, often they lack the skill needed to advocate for themselves. Often as a resource teacher these students come to me and ask me to advocate for them. Initially I often do "the work for them" but the goal is to always help them learn to advocate for themselves.
